What is HDD-Housing?

HDD-Housing is a Colocation Service for Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). Depending on the size of your HDDs, significantly lower costs can be achieved than offers that charge based on storage space. Especially in the case of restoration, enormous cost and time savings are possible.
Initial Backup and Restore can also be done over internet.

Service

• The HDD will be installed in a server with ECC RAM on which Proxmox is running. Server location Graz area, Austria
• Possible File Systems
  • ZFS
  • BTRFS (Since ZFS Bug 15526)
  • For other free file systems please contact us
• S.M.A.R.T. values and disk space usage for the last 365 days can be viewed on a Grafana dashboard
• E-Mail on HDD error

Advantages

• The Pool can be prepared onsite to avoid sending the initial backup over the internet
• New HDDs can be sent for restore, on which the data is cloned. Customer pays shipping and return shipping according to Post.at calculator, no additional handling fees
• High ransomeware security due to server-side snapshots
• Data security due to client side encryption

20€ per HDD (3,5 & 2,5”, SATA & SAS) per month
10€ per HDD per month for hot spare
For example 0.0024€ per GiB per month over 5 years incl. HDD buy cost for a pool of 3x18TB HDDs in raidz1 and useable size 31.6TiB
Customer pays shipping
No minimum contract duration
Payment opions are IBAN or PayPal
Free return shipping in the first 6 months if you are not happy with the service
No VAT because of “Kleinunternehmerregelung” in Austria
